As a Graduate Mine Surveyor, you will work collaboratively with our mining technical and operational teams to support the site’s survey functions. Under the guidance of qualified surveyors, you’ll develop practical skills, gain exposure to underground and open pit environments, and learn how survey data is collected, validated, and translated into accurate plans that support safe and efficient mining operations. This position is based on site, working on an 8/6 day shift only roster.
You will learn to work within Focus Minerals’ standards and the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, ensuring all survey activities meet statutory and company requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assist with conducting mine surveys and preparing statutory plans.
- Collect, validate, and process survey data under supervision.
- Support survey mark-ups, set-outs, and mining instructions.
- Help maintain survey control and contribute to void and volume monitoring.
- Participate in daily and monthly underground measurements, including overbreak/underbreak analysis.
- Assist with end-of-month volume calculations and reporting.
- Contribute to emergency plans and statutory mine plans under guidance.
- Communicate survey information clearly to key stakeholders.
- Build technical skills in survey software, instruments, and mine surveying methods.
- Work towards Authorised Mine Surveyor certification as part of your development.
About You
- Recent graduate or final-year student in Mine Surveying, Engineering Surveying, Spatial Science, or a related field.
- Exposure to surveying through vacation work or placements (desirable).
- Understanding of basic mine surveying principles and data collection methods.
- Familiarity with underground or open pit mining environments (advantageous).
- Competent with total stations, GPS, or lidar technology (training provided).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate data collection.
- Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Basic knowledge of Surpac, Deswik.CAD, or similar (training provided).
- Eligible for or working towards Grade 1 Survey Authorisation.
- Current WA C-Class Driver’s Licence.
